This week on The Collectors Show we will learn about the largest collection of seashells on display anywhere in the world. We will also talk with Larry Zale about protecting our collections from the elements, pests, and learn about three places to never store a collection. Seashells Near The Seashore
Named one of the ten best museums in Texas by Frommer’s Travel Guide, the Brazosport Museum of Natural Science is home to the largest collection of shells on display anywhere with shells from around the world. The Brazosport area is located south of Houston, TX. with much of the area on or near the Gulf of Mexico, making it a “natural” place for an important collection of seashells.
The Museum also features real life-sized fossilized dinosaur skeletons and other rarely exhibited fossils plus exhibits on wildlife, rocks & minerals and archeology to round out the museum. The museum is located at 400 College Blvd. in Clute, Texas, 77531. Contact the Brazosport Center for the Arts at their website, http://www.bcfas.org.
Basements, Attics and the Outdoors
Name three places not to keep your collectibles. It’s these three according to Laurence C. Zale, who is a regular contributor to The Collectors Show. Moisture, heat, light, humidity, insects, and other pests will also have better access to your collectibles than if they are stored more securely.
